It is the stand-out event of the year for new economic thinking - the Beyond Growth 2023 Conference.
From 15-17 May, policymakers, civil society organisations, academics, and citizens are coming together, in Brussels and online, to discuss new approaches to the economy which are fit for the 21st century.
The ZOE Institute has been involved from the very beginning as initiator, visionary, and co-organiser. In Brussels, we're present as speakers and panellists, promoting our solutions for an economy that ensures a good life for everyone, while also living in harmony with nature.
Check out where ZOE's directors Jonathan Barth and Jakob Hafele, as well as our Advisory Board members Kate Raworth, Maja Göpel, and Tim Jackson are appearing in the programme:
Jonathan Barth, Policy Director of the ZOE Institute
- Focus Panel 2 – How to target and future-proof industrial policy towards climate neutrality? – 15 May, 11am-1pm
The panel aims at looking at what is still needed in EU policy to ensure that EU industry and industrial policy is aligned with our climate ambition and respects our planetary boundaries.
Kate Raworth, Advisory Board member of the ZOE Institute
- Plenary 2 – Changing the goal: from GDP growth to social prosperity – 15 May, 5pm-6:30pm
The purpose of this plenary session is to propose a redefinition of prosperity beyond the mere criticism of GDP growth.
Maja Göpel, Advisory Board member of the ZOE Institute
- Plenary 5 – Building post-growth macroeconomic governance framework: aligning tools, rules and policies with EU political goals – 17 May, 9am-10:30am
The purpose of this plenary session is to outline macroeconomic policies that would fit the EU political goals and the Green deal in a post growth perspective.
Jakob Hafele, Executive Director of the ZOE Institute, and Tim Jackson, Advisory Board member of the ZOE Institute
- Closing plenary – Pathways from here: roadmap for a Green and Social Deal – 17 May, 4:30pm-6:30pm
The purpose of this plenary session is to provide concrete recommendations in order to shift the European economy towards a new post-growth model aiming to flourish rather than to grow.
We're also working behind the scenes, where we're organising four ‘Policy labs’:
- Redefining prosperity
- Economic governance
- Industrial policy
- Just transition
