Svenja's research interests encompass development economics, behavioral economics, socio-economics, interdisciplinary research and the theory of science. Further competencies include the design and organisation of scientific events and workshops as well as academic teaching.
JProf.'in Dr Svenja Flechtner studied languages, economics and cultural studies (diploma) as well as Governance & Public Policy/Staatswissenschaften (Bachelor) in Passau and Paris and earned her doctorate at the European University of Flensburg. Her dissertation on "Aspirations and the persistence of poverty and inequalities" received the Egon-Matzner Prize for Socioeconomics 2017. Svenja is junior professor for Plural Economics at the University of Siegen. Previously, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Economics Department of the Latin America Institute at Freie Universität Berlin. From 2014-2018, she was a member of the board of the European Association for Evolutionary Political Economy (EAEPE).
