»Learning about redirecting digital technologies towards a green sustainability transformation«
We held the opening event of our new Speaker Series ‘Social policy unpacked: Exploring pathways for fair green and digital transitions’, co-hosted by ZOE Institute for Future-fit Economies and the European Commission (DG EMPL) on December 14 2022. Engage with materials from the event below.
Governments and international organisations are currently putting forward new initiatives to govern digital technologies and media infrastructures. However, most of these policy initiatives disregard the broader implications of digitalisation for environmental sustainability and social justice. Governing this megatrend of digitalisation must step up to today’s societal challenges. What is needed, therefore, is a Digital Reset: a fundamental redirection of the purpose of digital technologies towards a deep sustainability transformation.

Steffen Lange and Tilman Santarius, lead authors of the Digital Reset report, shared their insights into
- how the green and digital transformations interconnect,
- what their guiding principles should be,
- and how digitalisation can be used to drive deep sustainability transformations in essential sectors from mobility, to housing, to energy.
