Internship in the project „Policy Making beyond growth“

Bonn | As of now | Application deadline 30. November 2019

We are looking for support for our current project “Policymaking beyond growth”. Economic growth plays a crucial role in the policy process, but generates high environmental and social follow-up costs and is also increasingly becoming an economic policy problem. Our project aims at a policy that can be oriented towards ecological and social indicators by reducing growth dependencies.

During your internship you will be involved in the development of a website. On this website we will make policies and argumentation strategies on how to reduce growth dependencies available to policy makers and the European civil society.

The following exciting and varied tasks await you:

  • Literature research on postgrowth, growth constraints, countermeasures and EU policies
  • Development of website content and its visualization in creative workshops
  • Supporting the organisation of workshops with EU policymakers

Beyond the project, the internship provides insights into the organizational structures and processes of the ZOE Institute. Within this framework, interns can also be involved in tasks beyond the project.

Agility, decentralised decision-making, personal responsibility and flat hierarchies play a major role for us. We are looking for intrinsically motivated people who meet most of the following criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, political science, sustainability studies, public policy, sociology, law or similar area
  • Knowledge of growth theories, post-growth debate, EU policy
  • Creative potential, ability to think out of the box
  • Ability to make complex topics easily accessible
  • Strategic, target group-oriented communication
  • Fluent written and spoken English, knowledge of German desirable
  • Good academic writing skills
  • Independent but cooperative way of working

The weekly working time is 32 or 40 hours, depending on the agreement. An internship of 3 months is planned, starting as soon as possible. A regular presence in Bonn is desired. Depending on the qualification, online cooperation is also possible. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer compensation for the internship. A contribution towards costs for transport and accommodation will be decided on a case-by-case basis upon request.
