Prof Julia Steinberger (University of Lausanne) shared insights into the results of her Living Well within Limits (LiLi) research project, and how this will inform the upcoming A Post-Growth Deal (REAL) project.

Is it possible to live well within planetary boundaries? If so, how? These fundamental questions for a fair green transition were the foundation for the LiLi project, which investigated the energy requirements of well-being, from quantitative, participatory and provisioning systems perspectives. By combining environmental, engineering, economic and social sciences approaches, the project developed models of low energy and high wellbeing futures.

How can our societies and economies realise these futures? The new REAL project, funded by an ERC Synergy grant, will develop pathways for the transition to sustainable and equitable low-carbon societies, which do not depend on economic growth. Achieving fair green transitions requires new data, research and models, as well new ideas for their application in policy. Julia Steinberger will share her insights from the forefront of this research.

Prof. Julia Steinberger

Julia Steinberger is Professor of Societal Challenges of Climate Change at the University of Lausanne.
